Amateur Extra License (2016-2020)

The Amateur Extra license exam is a 50 question test drawn from a pool of 712 questions. The question pool is divided into 10 subelements (E0–E9).  Each subelement is subdivided into topics (groups).  There are 50 topics represented in the question pool.  One test question will be randomly selected from each topic to make up the exam. You must  correctly answer at least 37 questions on the exam to obtain your Extra license.

Do NOT attempt to memorize answers to questions the way they appear in the NCVEC question pool.  The questions and associated answer choices will be shuffled on the license exam.  There is no time limit on the license exam.

STUDY TOPICS or SUBELEMENTS

This self-study program enables you to study topics as presented in the NCVEC Amateur Extra exam syllabus or to study subelements.  By studying topics, you will be able to concentrate on fewer questions at a time.  Table-2 shows the topics within each subelement.

HOW THE SELF-STUDY PROGRAM WORKS

TOPIC STUDY.  View the flashcards for a  topic.  Test yourself on the topic questions.  When you are scoring 85 or higher on every topic test,  move on to the next topic.  When you have completed all the topics in a subelement, test yourself on the entire subelement until you are scoring 85 or higher on every test. Repeat the process until you complete all ten subelements (E0 – E9).  Then test yourself with  sample Amateur Extra license exams until you are scoring 85 or higher on every exam.  Studying by topic enables you to work with smaller groups of questions at a time.

SUBELEMENT STUDY:  Study the flashcards for a subelement.  Test yourself on the subelement until you are scoring 85 or higher on every test.  Repeat the process until you complete all ten subelements (E0 – E9).  Then test yourself with  practice Amateur Extra license exams until you are scoring 85 or higher on every exam.
